Family Calendar by Wyvern Byte LLC is a household organizer for Android tablets and Google TV. Everything runs on your chosen device. We do not operate a cloud service that hosts your household information.
Household information
The app stores the profiles, names, pictures, calendars, chores, routines, practice history, meals, lists, rewards, and settings you enter. A grown-up PIN restricts administrative actions; it is not a separate private account for each family member.
Google Calendar and Google Photos
Connecting a Google account asks for the Google Calendar and Google Photos permissions below in one sign-in. On Google's screen you can leave either one unticked, and the app uses only what you allow.
If you connect Google Calendar, the app requests read-only calendar access (calendar.readonly) to show the calendars and events you choose. It does not create, edit, or delete Google Calendar events. Calendar copies and the tokens used for synchronization are stored on your device.
If you connect Google Photos, the app requests permission to read the photos you choose in Google's picker (photospicker.mediaitems.readonly), plus OpenID Connect identity and your email address (openid and email) to identify the connection. Up to 100 individually selected photos are copied to your device at screen size with camera metadata such as GPS location removed. These local photo collections do not stay synchronized with a Google Photos album. The app does not create, edit, or delete your photos or albums in Google Photos.
Google data is not sold or used for advertising, profiling, or training AI models. Our use of Google API information follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
How sensitive data is protected
- Connections to Google's authorization and API services use HTTPS (TLS) to encrypt Google user data and authorization tokens in transit.
- Google sign-in uses OAuth with a one-time state value and Proof Key for Code Exchange (PKCE). The app receives authorization tokens rather than asking for or storing your Google password.
- Google sign-in tokens are encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM before they are saved. The encryption key is random for each installation and is itself protected by the Android Keystore, so it cannot be copied off the device, and it is excluded from backups. Tokens in the database and in exported backups are therefore unreadable without that device.
- Google tokens and copied household data are stored in the app's local database on your device, within the app's private storage on Android and Google TV, which Android keeps inaccessible to other apps. Devices running Android 10 or later also encrypt this storage. The app does not send this data to publisher-operated servers.
- When you disconnect a Google account in Settings → Google Account, the app asks Google to revoke the access it was granted, and then deletes the account's tokens from your device.
- An optional grown-up PIN can protect administrative settings and backup access when those protections are enabled. PINs are stored as salted password hashes, and repeated incorrect attempts are temporarily blocked. The PIN does not make information displayed on the shared household screen private from people who can use or view that screen.
Keep the device and its operating system updated, restrict physical access where appropriate, and protect exported backup files and any accounts or storage locations used to keep them.
Optional services
Google synchronization and photo selection contact Google directly. Optional weather for US locations contacts the US National Weather Service using the configured location. We do not add advertising or analytics services to the app.
On-device access
The initial Android and Google TV release is used directly on the installed device. It does not expose your household interface to other devices on the home network. Phone and browser access is deferred. No publisher-operated connection or certificate service is used.
Purchases
Family Calendar is free to download from Google Play and free to use for 7 days. A one-time in-app purchase through Google Play then unlocks it permanently. Google processes payments under its own terms and privacy policy; we do not receive your payment-card details through this app.
Backups and retention
The app makes local backups on your device. Exporting a backup to a location you select, including a cloud-drive provider, sends that copy to the location you choose. Backups include household information and encrypted Google sign-in tokens. Those tokens can be read only on the device that made the backup; after restoring on another device, or after reinstalling the app, connect your Google accounts again. Protect exported files. The app excludes its private household files from automatic Android cloud backup and device-transfer backup.
Information remains on your device until you remove it or clear the app's storage. Disconnecting Google Calendar removes that calendar connection's tokens and copied events from the live database; earlier backups can still contain them until those copies are deleted or expire under backup retention. Uninstalling or clearing app storage removes the app's data from your device but not files you exported elsewhere. Backups don't include screen-saver photos copied to your device; after restoring a backup, pick them again.
Control and removal
Manage connections and household data in Settings. Google Calendar and Google Photos are connected with one Google sign-in under Settings → Google Account. Disconnecting an account there revokes the app's Google access, removes its local tokens and copied events without changing the source events in Google Calendar. If the device is offline, the local tokens are still removed, and you can revoke access yourself. Individually copied photos remain until you delete their local photos or albums in these settings. Deleting a local photo or album does not delete the source photo or album in Google Photos. Earlier backups may retain copies and need to be removed separately. You can revoke Google access at myaccount.google.com/permissions. To erase everything, clear Family Calendar's app storage in Android settings and delete any separately exported backups. Back up anything you want to keep first.
Children and family use
Adults set up and manage the household. Family members can use the shared routines and activities. We do not maintain hosted child profiles, sell household information, or use it for targeted advertising. Parents control what is entered, displayed on the household device, and shared with connected services.
